Understanding the Different Colors and Meanings of Project Helmets

Understanding the meaning of project helmets is the main thing that must be considered in doing a job. As do the workers in the construction area. To maintain safety while working, workers must use protection that has been listed in the Occupational Safety and Security (K3) regulations in the applicable Manpower Act.

Both companies and workers must be aware of work safety by applicable standards. One of the protectors that must be worn in this case is a project helmet or headgear that is by national standards, which in this case is commonly referred to as PPE (Personal Protective Equipment).

Work accidents can cause serious and fatal health hazards in the short and long term. Therefore, it is clear that more attention needs to be paid to occupational health and safety. Even though in practice in the field, there are still some who neglect the function of the PPE itself. Implementation of K3 in construction areas can be done in various ways. Safety protection begins with the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and good occupational health facilities.

What is the Personal Protective Equipment?

Work safety tools can be anything that can protect you. Even so, in the construction project area, there are already several special regulations governing work safety, in this case commonly called Personal Protective Equipment PPE. So, what are the work safety tools that comply with national standards?

1. Safety Helmet.

One of the safety tools that are easy to identify. Safety helmets or project helmets are indispensable in working in construction project areas.

2. Safety Strap.

In addition to safety helmets, workers also need a safety belt or safety belt. The safety rope serves to limit movement so that workers do not easily slip, fall, or be released.

3. Boots.

If a helmet is used to protect the head from impact or heavy impact, boots are used to protect the lower limbs, namely the feet. Boots serve to avoid the risk of being hit by heavy objects or stepping on something dangerous.

4. Face Shield.

Face shields are used to protect the face from direct contact with harmful chemicals and small particles suspended in the air or water.

5. Safety Glasses.

Safety equipment can also be provided in the form of glasses, with special lenses also serve as a barrier against excessive glare.

6. Gloves.

Finally, some gloves serve to protect hands from chemicals, fire, and hot and cold temperatures.

Why is Safety Helmet Important?

The project helmet has the main function, namely to protect the heads of construction workers to avoid falling objects and others and to minimize injuries that will hit the workers. According to data from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), the fields or workplaces that record so many accidents with head injuries are industrial project areas. So many, the number was almost in the tens of thousands.

So do not be surprised, if the use of project helmets is very important, both workers, contractors, supervisors, or company guests who are visiting the area need to use project helmets to minimize the risk of head injuries that will befall workers.

Even so, regardless of the many colors of project helmets used, Personal Protective Equipment or PPE, which is the national standard of dress in this construction area, basically protects its users from various risks of injury, such as collisions, falls, or being hit by sharp or hard objects. gliding from the air, and so on.

The use of project helmets is usually only required in several workplaces that have a high risk of certain types of injury as previously mentioned, such as building construction, oil mines, factories, and so on.

Types of Project Helmets and Their Positions

In general, project helmets are divided into seven project helmet colors. Project helmets are divided into several types of colors based on the position of the person.

1. White

The white project helmet is usually intended for people who have high positions in the construction project area. In this case the foremen, engineers, and supervisors. People who wear white helmets usually have more responsibility and knowledge. So, don’t hesitate to ask those wearing white helmets if they don’t understand the details of the development process in the construction project area.

2. Green

The green project helmet is intended for people whose tasks are related to the environment. In this case in the construction project area, they are usually environmental researchers or environmental supervisors. People who wear green helmets tend to understand more about the state of the environment around the project, whether it is dangerous or not.

3. Yellow

The yellow project helmet is intended for general workers in the field, or sub-contractors and heavy equipment operators. Not only wearing a yellow project helmet but usually, these workers are also required to wear a yellow vest when on duty in the field.

4. Pink

Pink project helmets are usually intended for workers who have just been involved in work or this case are interns. Usually, these new workers will explore and understand the ins and outs of the construction project area first, so as not to neglect its safety.

5. Blue

It’s different with the brown project helmet, it’s different with the blue one. The blue project helmet is intended for field workers who have positions as field supervisors, and technical operators in the project area. Usually, the technical operators here are electrical technicians to experts in wooden buildings.

6. Orange

The orange project helmet is usually intended for construction workers who want to enter and inspect the project area. In this case, those who usually wear orange helmets are company guests who are visiting or reviewing the project area.

7. Gray

The gray project helmet is intended for company guests visiting the construction area.

That’s a conclusion of the meaning of helmet colors for each project, based on the location of the building in the project area. Project helmets are an important part of preventing workplace accidents. In addition to implementing OHS, project helmets can identify worker positions based on helmet color. Without a comfortable scaffold, a smooth construction process is impossible.
